about

I have no idea why we recorded this. In the earliest stages of the band we were playing an enormous 25 minute song we referred to as "The Epic," and this was the intro to it. The actual song was ridiculously simple, just four chords built up forever and then ground into the dirt for about 15 minutes, with some of my nonsense lyrics about black clouds in the sky and feeling depressed. I'm trying to round up an old tape with it; hopefully Ben still has it around. I'm not sure we ever played it live, although we sometimes used this guitar intro as an opener (Ben and I would take the stage and play through it, then Matt would Saunter on and we'd kick into something full force.) I feel like Ben wanted to record this in the studio, but I'm not entirely sure...it strikes me as a sort of naive attempt at Mogwai style guitar interplay.
