about

When we originally released "Threnodic" we spent a lot of time trying to get the University of MN radio station, Radio K, to pick up the record. We were told the songs were all too long for broadcast (which I knew was bullshit because they would play "Didn't We Deserve a Look at You the Way You Really Are" by Shellac pretty regularly) and were promptly dismissed. A few years later a couple guys started a program called "Now Like Photographs" that focused on instrumental bands and invited us to play a session. By this time we hardly ever played anything off "Threnodic" but Matt thought this would be a good opportunity to maybe sell some of the (many) leftover copies we had, since we never played a release show for it. I thought the opposite and didn't want to play any of the old stuff; I thought we could just mention "Threnodic" and that would be good enough. I was wrong, because during the interview after the performance we were asked if any of the material we had played was on our record. I felt pretty stupid. At least I got to play a Skullflower track on the radio, though.
"The Growing Sadness" was slated to be the lead off track on the second record. It was a live favorite-I think we played it almost every show. This version isn't as aggressive as I would have liked and my clean guitar sounded a little weak, but those are egotistical concerns. When my dad heard this on the radio, he said it just sounded like a bunch of noise (in a good way.)
